What are antioxidants in green tea all about.

Updated: Jul 17, 2018

Antioxidants, the word thrown about so recklessly why do we need them?

Well there is this little guy called a free radical, he is a free agent who come to live with us when we indulge in all those unhealthy habits. You know them, bad food choices, smoking and drinking, lets face it no one is perfect.

These little radicals get together to form long chain molecules damaging healthy cells by stealing oxygen from them. This is really bad because the lack of oxygen leads to cell damage causing cancer, ageing and a variety of other diseases.

Lucky for us there are those wonderful antioxidants to save our cells. Antioxidants react with the free radicals reducing celll damage. Researchers ( those clever people) have found the powerful antioxidant present in Sencha green tea is called Epigallocatechin Galate, EGCG for short. Drinking Sencha Green tea increases antioxidants in your body to help fight free radicles, remember drink tea in moderation antioxidants can also be found in a variety of other foods such as blueberries, whole grains... the list is endless.
